Mayans M.C. Episode 7 Recap: Cucaracha K’uruch
Mayans M.C. Season 1 Episode 7 Recap: Cucaracha K’uruch
Cucaracha K’uruch opens with EZ taking some tapes out of a tape recorder and putting them in a paper bag. Angel is seen sitting on the porch holding a cockroach ( Cucaracha ) he picked up as it was crawling by…
Angel’s Surprise Confession
At the clubhouse, Bishop, Taza, and Tranq are discussing what went down at the border with Galindo when Angel interrupts. Says he has struggled with talking to them about it because it makes him feel like a snitch. He lies and says the reason they lost Dennis during the chase is because they came across soft dirt and Gilly fell into an old tunnel. That tunnel led to another tunnel that was obviously in use and reached a half mile into Mexico. The other end led to Vicky’s place. Angel apologizes for not saying anything to them immediately, explaining that he was worried about how it would affect the club with Glaindo already suspecting a mole and everything else that’s going on. Bishop tells Angel that it stays at the table, for now.
As Angel leaves the meeting he receives a text from Adelita, grabs EZ, and heads to the warehouse. EZ follows him through the Mayans MC dress shop and to an unmarked van parked in front where Adelita waits inside. They hop in the van and begin a short road trip on the US side of the border. Adelita asks about their family.
EZ and Angel they reveal that they have no other siblings and their Mom has been dead for nine years. The brothers also reveal that Felipe still considers her very much alive. They explain their dad never remarried and still talks to their mother’s ashes. Then, drop Adelita off at a parked car in the middle of nowhere. She softly runs her hand down Angel’s arm as she walks away from the van, then turns and looks back at him. They exchange warm glances and she gets into the car. Angel promises to explain everything to EZ once they meet up with Coco and Gilly.
Meanwhile, morning dawns and Galindo gets an unpleasant wake-up call in the holding cell getting splashed with another detainee’s urine. Dita, Emily, and Devante wait outside the border patrol station for any word on the release of Miguel and the return of Cristobal.
“Anything from the lawyer?” asks Emily. “No. A legal hierarchy at the border and now it’s fucking chaos. Idiots dictating policy, making shit up as they go along. Covering their ass so they don’t take the hit when the Emperor shits his new clothes.” responds Devante.
Devante & Emily
In Cucaracha, we are told that it has been 18 hours since Galindo was arrested. Devante confirms he called the lawyers, but right now there’s nothing they can do. No one’s sure who is in charge because of the chaos at the border under the current administration. However, Devante says he doesn’t think it’s the Feds, because they like to openly wield their power and they have not yet taken credit for Galindo’s arrest.
They return to the clubhouse where Angel has told his little rogue group of Mayans what is about to go down with the rebels. EZ is then sent out to clean the motorcycles while the patched over Mayans have a meeting. Galindo’s current state of incarceration is discussed, and it’s pointed out that it’s unusual Galindo hasn’t been sprung by his lawyers. They know he’s being held, but aren’t sure why. While they agree to go ahead with an impending deal, it’s decided that several guys should remain behind in case Galindo needs them.
EZ is outside cleaning motorcycles when Chucky arrives with Leti. They tell EZ that Coco asked to see her and Chucky went to pick her up. He is very excited about making breakfast for her.
Coco Comes Clean
After the meeting breaks up, Coco introduces the club to Leti who is busy eating a hearty breakfast courtesy of Chucky. Johnny formally introduces her to the club as his daughter. When he tells them that he screwed up pretty badly with her and is trying to set things right, she suddenly gives him a hug. While she has breakfast with her father, EZ goes out on a run with some guys.
Bishop whispers to Chucky, wondering if this is the girl he saw with Coco. Chucky confirms she is. Bishop gives Coco the day off to hang with Leti. Bishop tells EZ to take Coco’s place on the run.

Galindo and La Cucaracha
Back in lock-up, a massive inmate demands Galindo hand over his shirt, Galindo pretends to hand it over before using it to strangle him to death. “That cockroach ( Cucaracha ) … that’s what you are to me. A fu#*ing plague. A dirty pest with a tiny brain. Someone steps on you … nobody notices you’re gone. You’re a mistake.” After Galindo’s taunts him about being less than a cockroach, he takes off his shirt and uses it to take down the man and choke him until he’s unconscious. Galindo delivers a stomp to the chest followed by spitting in the man’s face to finish up the one-sided fight. The way he can turn on his ruthlessness so quickly was a reminder that people shouldn’t be messing with him.
Adelita’s Surprise Visit
Back at the Reyes house, the day is just beginning for Felipe. As he sits down with his coffee, he speaks to his dead wife. But, then realizes her urn is missing. He’s shocked to find Adelita inside his house and she’s the one who moved the urn. Felipe demands to know her identity and she calls him by his real name without revealing hers.
After pulling out a gun, she then pulls out a copy of the same photo Felipe keeps hidden in his locked box, although her photo is torn and doesn’t include the severed heads. The man in the photo with Felipe is her father. Felipe realizes she’s Pedro’s kid and she reveals her name is Lousie Espina, but that she is now going by Adelita. He wonders how she found him, and she admits it was through his sons who’ve been helping the rebels. She does, however, assure him his sons don’t know about his connection to her father.
Felipe cuts to the chase, asking what she wants. She explains that her father fled from Mexico to Venezuela in 1989 and Galindo found them there because he was betrayed by a friend. She explains that when she was six the Galindos tracked them down and killed her family. Her father had to watch as they cut her brother and mother to pieces. Galindo told her father he had been betrayed by a friend, someone who broke his sacred trust. They then decapitated him. She watched him be murdered by the cartel while she was hiding in a heating vent. She also saw her mother and baby brother butchered.
Felipe tells Adelita that he left working for the cartels in 1984 because his wife was pregnant and since Adelita’s father didn’t want to leave yet, he never knew what happened to him. Adelita believes Felipe sold out his old partner. She’s there to kill him, but Felipe has information she’s missing.
Adelita continues to point the gun at his head as he opens the locked box with the photo. He shows her his copy, complete with the severed heads. He explains they sold their souls to the cartel, showing other photos of their atrocities. Adelita wants to know who else would have been aware of Pedro’s whereabouts. Felipe believes it was the person who took the photo, the third member of their small group who did everything together. The man’s name was Rodrigo and he’s a priest. He’s also the one who created Felipe’s new identity. It’s possible he did that for Pedro, too. The same man who helped them both get new identities was a priest.
Adelita realizes the sacred trust that was broken was broken by a priest, the same priest who is now a cardinal and who is Adelita’s “friend.” The revelation makes her physically sick and she asks to borrow the photo of the three friends and Felipe agrees. Before leaving she asks if her father was an animal and Felipe replies, “We didn’t start out that way. We just chose the wrong family.”
While Adelita apologizes to him and leaves the Reyes house, EZ and some of the Mayans rendezvous for a business deal with the Sons of Anarchy. While in the middle of business he gets a call from Jimenez saying his deal is being pulled, but he’s not giving up. Jimenez also reveals that he needs to keep an eye out while with the Mayans MC and agrees to keep him informed. After hanging up, Jimenez begins following his boss in a car as he leaves work.
Jimenez is Reassigned
Jimenez gets notified that he is off the case and another agent will be taking charge from now on. He isn’t happy and is worried that bringing in local cops will get EZ killed. Agent Kevin Jimenez shows up at work and informs his supervisor (La Cucaracha, in my opinion ) that EZ’s giving him a bag today. Unfortunately, it’s too late and Kevin’s being dismissed from the case. They’re going to bring in EZ Reyes using local cops, and Kevin realizes that will expose Reyes’ actions to the club. The supervisor doesn’t care, and Kevin accuses him of not caring because EZ will be just another dead Mexican. “You’ll probably get a bonus for that in this administration,” says Kevin before being booted from the office.
Meeting with the Sons of Anarchy
The Mayans meet up with Sons of Anarchy on the road and it’s hugs all around. The club is making a deal with SOA for weapons and as the product is exchanged EZ gets a call, which he ignores. That call is followed by a text warning him that something bad is happening and to pick up the phone.
Kevin calls and tells EZ he’s been pulled off the detail and EZ’s deal is over. EZ lets Kevin in on the fact Galindo was arrested at the border. “Don’t cave on me. You need to steer clear of the Mayans. They put out a BOLO,” warns Kevin.
Kevin hangs up and then stealthily follows his supervisor as he leaves the office to another office complex and waits outside. Inside, the agent can’t remember the code to a locked room but the personnel inside eventually let him in anyway.
The Long Ride Home
Deal done, the club gets back on the road. A cop nearby spots them and gives chase. Out on the street, the cop calls in backups and everyone’s forced to pull over. The club’s now carrying guns and realize they need to stay cool, but EZ also knows he can’t be questioned in front of the Mayans.
It turns out the cops were the same ones EZ had a run in with at the casino. Seeing this, EZ taunts the cops before taking them on a chase while the other Mayans MC members laugh. He rides back over to the officers parked 100 or so feet back, tells them he’s the guy they’re looking forward, kicks a squad car door shut, and rides off. The cops pursue EZ as he flees, giving the club a chance to ride off. EZ stops at a police barricade and gets off the bike. When he does, the cops take turns beating him, although he’s in no way resisting arrest.
Sons of Anarchy antagonist Asst U.S. Attorney Lincoln Potter (Ray McKinnon) is running the war room when they get word EZ has been picked up when Kevin decides to make his presence known. Kevin barges into the secret meeting, revealing he’s invested two years on this case and EZ just gave him info that Galindo’s being detained at Calexico East, something that comes as a shock to this group. They realize Galindo has in fact been off the grid for 26 hours. Potter orders teams sent out to find Galindo. He also tells Kevin his deal is still in play and that they’ll drop the BOLO on EZ.
Felipe’s Mysterious Trip
After his run in with Adelita, we next see Felipe driving off somewhere, drinking his coffee and fiddling with the contents of a bag in the passenger side of the truck. In that bag are several guns.

Coco takes Leti home
Elsewhere, Coco takes Leti back to his mother’s place. They argue. There is absolutely no food in the house and it’s clear that Celia does not take care of Leti.
Celia: Cops called this morning. Found my Chevy in a field near the border. A dead body in the f****g trunk.
Coco: Wow, anyone you know?
Coco tries to make peace by promising her another car, but she’s not satisfied. She knows that the girl took the car, but threatens to report that Johnny stole it as leverage.
“No, No, No, No. That’s not the only thing you’re going to get me,” Cecilia says. “All I have to do is tell the cops it was you that took it. They’ll see your record, and your little uniform. How do you think that’s going to go over?”
Coco replies, “I’m doing my best to make this work. I get it, you blame me, I’m a sh***y son. But I need some help. You gotta meet me half way. For her sake.”
Celia storms off. After his mom leaves the room, Coco hugs Leti and hands her some cash for food and whatever she needs. When he takes off, his mother comes back and demands the money from the girl. For good measure, she adds that it won’t last and if she wants to keep getting the money she better go out and sell her body for money. Leti’is so upset she locks herself in the bathroom and bangs her head against the toilet, bloodying her face.
Galindo’s Suprise Guest
Galindo is pulled from the cage in the public lockup area and taken to an out of the way room. He’s in handcuffs and not told what’s happening. Adelita steps out of the shadows and asks the border patrol officers to remove the handcuffs and the officers leave her alone with Galindo.
When Galindo demands his son, she replies that he and his family is safe. She also adds that she’s not there to kill him and reveals what happened to her family. Adelita reveals the Galindo cartel slaughtered her family but this is much more than just revenge she’s seeking.
It all Becomes So Clear
Miguel realizes the kidnapping was just to set up this meeting. It turns out that what she wants is his cooperation. To obtain that, she shows him various parts of his enterprise on a laptop live feed. But that’s not all, because, on her command, several properties are destroyed in real-time so he can watch. Galindo shrugs it off. She then places live feeds of every single one of his facilities on the screen, telling him she’ll take them all out which will open up spots for smaller drug dealers to move in. Plus, he’ll be busy in the US courts and won’t be able to rebuild.
Adelita: We know we can’t defeat evil. All we can do is point it in the right direction. Let evil feed our children, and care for our sick. Let the devil secure our future.
Miguel: And I’m that devil?
Adelita adds that she wants to work with the Galindo cartel because she knows another cartel will just take its place. So if that’s the case, Adelita wants to use the money to feed starving children. In exchange for the cartel backing off violence, she offer the services of her organization in exchange for a piece of the action. Miguel wonders how they’ll ever trust each other. To help establish trust Adelita reveals her real name and Galindo considers what she’s offering. She also adds that they need to include a third-party to help keep them honest and lets him think about her offer.
The Return of a Bloodied EZ
At the clubhouse, the club thinks EZ acted to keep the rest of the Mayans out of trouble. He wasn’t carrying any weapons, so he led the cops off on a wild goose chase to distract them from the rest of the club. He might be charged with reckless driving or speeding, and Bishop tells Angel his little bro has balls.
Just then, EZ shows up and he’s summoned to the meeting room. He’s been beaten and is icing his arm. EZ explains he let them catch him once he knew the club was out of range. They didn’t charge him with anything because it would have been a lot of paperwork for just misdemeanors. They beat him and let him go. Bishop says that he thinks EZ’s a smart kid and adds that his decision was both brave and reckless. However, he makes it clear that he is angry that the prospect went rogue. It could have led to one of the Mayans getting killed by angry cops. EZ apologizes and Bishop warns him once more and he’s out. Being tossed from the club (and what comes with that) will make what the cops did feel like a day at the spa.
When EZ is dismissed, Bishop asks how much longer EZ has? Angel responds, 8 more months.

Lyin’ Leti’s return
As EZ walks out of the clubhouse, Chucky drives up with Leti. She looks horrible and claims her grandmother almost killed her. Coco sees his daughter and heads out, telling EZ to clean Leti up.
Coco breaks down his mother’s door while she’s relaxing in the bathtub. She’s able to get up and grab a knife but believes she’s safe when she sees it’s Coco. Coco punches her in the face, knocking her back into the tub. She spits up blood onto the side of the tub and begins to threaten Coco.
“You’re fucking crazy,” she says. “Cops are gonna know you took my car, add assault to that. I’m gonna fucking bury you! I’m gonna fucking bury you!” Coco replies, “I believe you would, Mom.”
He then strangles her, holding her head in the tub’s water. She thrashes and tires to push Coco away to no avail. She dies in the tub at her son’s own hand. Last we see Coco, he is sitting on the side of the tub, he grabs a towel and dries himself off.
Riz’s Puzzling Side Game
Things aren’t so rosey for Riz who’s caught by the club using the tunnel outside Victoria’s place to smuggle in two Hispanic females and a baby.
Miguel is Released
The border facility personnel bring Galindo his son and say he is free to go. Adelita watches him leave and says that they’ll be in touch. Galindo returns home and everyone is thrilled, Emily especially.
The Galindo family is celebrating the return of their son when the power goes out. Paco’s confronted outside while candles are being lit inside.
Noises are heard outside and everyone heads off different directions, leaving Emily alone holding the baby in the living room. Galindo and his men go to check it out and don’t return, which makes Emily nervous. Eventually, only Emily is left and she goes to investigate. She follows the path Miguel took and reaches the front door. Outside, Assistant U.S. Attorney Lincoln Potter and the DEA have already placed Miguel and his men in custody. He speaks to Emily, calling her Mrs. Galindo, or is it Ms. Emily Thomas?

EZ Learns the Truth
At the end of Cucaracha K’uruch, EZ goes to his dad’s. Felipe’s not there but the box with the photos and Felipe’s real history is sitting on the table. EZ appears stunned while he looks through the box’s contents.

My Take on Cucaracha K’uruch
Carla Baratta delivered an incredible performance on “Cucaracha K’uruch.” Adelita became more than just the cold-hearted leader of the rebellion. We became aware that she was actually a very damaged woman. One who has spent most of her life believing that her father was betrayed by Felipe.
Also, I feel for Leti. In Cucaracha we learn that her grandmother was a bonafide psychopath, who was forcing her granddaughter to prostitute if she wanted a roof over her head. However, the fact that the first thing that came to Leti’s mind was to repeatedly bash her head on a toilet seat and accuse Celia of beating her was also JUST a touch psychotic. Coco has clearly fallen in love with Leti fast, and if that wasn’t clear before, it certainly is now. I mean, he killed his mother to protect his daughter.
I’m curious to see how Coco will react once he finds out Celia didn’t really beat Leti. Will he feel remorse for what he’s done, or is he too in love with the idea of being a father to Leti that her lies won’t matter to him? Coco and Leti are quickly becoming some of the best part of Mayans MC for me. The two were definately the highlight of Cucaracha for me! …I sure didn’t see that coming!
Cockroach ( Cucaracha ) Episode
Cucaracha K’uruch was a very solid hour with great character development. I care about Adelita now, I don’t despise Jiminez anymore, and Coco and Miguel have surpassed my expectations and made me care about them!
What did you think of “Cucaracha K’uruch” and your impression of Adelita now that you know more about her? Lastly, exactly what are you hoping to see in the last three episodes of the season?
