Mayans MC Episode 6 Recap: Gato/Mis

In my humble opinion, Gato/Mis is the best episode of Mayans MC so far!

Felipe & Jimenez

At the Reyes family home, Felipe awakens and finds his nephew Jimenez (who is a federal agent) sitting on his porch, drunk! Jimenez askes Felipe if he would really hurt his family. Felipe responds with “I don’t underestimate any man’s capacity for despicable acts.”

Gato/Mis

The two look through Felipe’s lock box. Felipe recounts his old stories. Felipe explained that he escaped his violent past through an excess of “blood and money.” The two share the day together, talking about their past and what each would lose, should the whole truth come out. Clearly Jimenez is being forced into something he is not comfortable with.

Dita

Also, what is going on with Galindo’s mom, Dita. Devante and Emily suspect that she is just upset that Emily is assisting her husband in his cartel business. But it really appears that she was reacting to news about the cartel closing in on the rebels. Maybe Angel is not Adelita’s only rogue “family” member. There are many reasons Dita could be undermining the cartel. First, we know she never wanted this life for him. Second, mabye this is her attempt to save her grandson from being obligated to follow in his father and grandfather’s foot steps. It’s a dangerous game to play to put her grandson in jeopardy; unless she knows Adelita and knew all along that the rebels would take good care of Cristobel.

Galinda

Also, as far as Galindo, it’s hard to feel sympathy for a cartel leader, but in Gato/Mis I did feel sorry for him. Watching him sit, waiting for his son was excruciating! Then, we watch Galindo slowly make his way toward the border, with his son finally in his arms. On the other hand, you know something is bound to happen.  However, I never expected Galindo to get busted on the wrong side of the border. Apparentyl, Adelita’s rebels quilted heroin into Cristobel’s blanket!

Adelita

It blew my mind that the rebels knew the little boy with the cut hand was a spy for Galindo. Adelita finally told Angel that her mission was not really just in support of the orphans, but of “thousands”. Yet, we still don’t know what the BIG plan is.  In Gato/Mis, Adelita finally reveals to Angel her true name, Louise Espinosa. Now we know that she is the daughter of Felipe’s old federale partner. Angel doesn’t know that, but it makes you wonder if Adelita knew exactly who Angel is and if she had a plan for him as well as Miguel.

EZ, Coco & Letitica

All of this happening and yet, it was EZ and Coco who ended up having the worst day! Coco’s daughter Leti showed up at the junkyard.

Gato/Mis

After Coco left to go with Tranq, Leti stormed out and EZ followed, telling her that Coco wanted her to stick around. Leti tells EZ that she “can’t” stay. Finally, she lifts her shirt to reveal that she is covered in bruises. As a bonus, she had the corpse of the truck driver in the trunk of her Grandmother’s stolen car.  She came to Coco for help getting rid of the body.

Gato/Mis

The Clean up

Finally, EZ and Leti go to the rest stop to clean up the scene and two truckers “interrupt” them. EZ and Leti have to take care of them.

Afterwards, he calls Angel for assistance, and Angel leaves with Leti to take her back to the Junkyard. EZ is forced to make a run for it, with the cops hot on his tail. It turns out, Leti actually stole her Grandma’s car, and Grandma reported it missing. He escapes from the cops and makes his way back to the junk yard. Coco takes Leti for a drive and they talk.  Coco explains why he left her with his mother. He tells her that he has two other children, who he also keeps his distance from. He believes it is best for all of them.

New Guy in Town

In conclusion, how about that LAST segment? Lincoln Potter, the Assistant U.S. Attorney played by Ray McKinnon, who was last seen in season four of Sons shows up… This CAN’T be good!.

“Lovely night for a walk,” he purrs at EZ, as the Mayans protagonist strolls on, barely looking at the odd man standing outside the club’s Romero Brothers Scrap and Salvage scrapyard. (With that said, given EZ’s razor-sharp attention to detail and deep memory recall, I can only imagine that EZ will easily remember seeing at some point down the line.)

Gato/Mis

As EZ walks away, Potter picks up and cradles a cat, the two of them staring at the scrapyard. Meanwhile, Potter monologues as he holds and strokes the animal. “Tell me, my wise feline friend,” Potter whispers in the cat’s ear. “You’ve roamed behind those rusty gates. What unspeakable truths lie twisted amongst the scrap, hm?”

Gato/Mis

Opinion

Specifically, this writer islooking forward to seeing that happens between Coco and Letitia in the next several episodes. I think the actors have a great dynamic and cannot wait to see them on screen together more.
All in all, Gato/Mis was packed with reveals and surprises… oh, and voilence. How about Mouse pushing the Galindo “spy boy” off the roof? Who’s ready for Episode 7 Cucaracha/K’uruch? See you Tuesday night!
